·         V.C.T. services is on voluntary basis and thus a desire of a client

·         Informed consent is always required.

·         Confidentiality is maintained.

·         Anonymous services can be provided too.

Voluntary Counseling and Testing

·         Pre-test and post-test counseling is always offered as per the requirement.

·         Counseling emphasizes behavior change and prevention.

·         Couple counseling is a strong recommendation.

·         Counselors refer clients to other appropriate services if need be.

Voluntary Counseling and Testing

·         Simple, rapid, whole blood tests for same-day or same-hour results.

·         Serial testing is the minimum standard; one screening test for all clients and a confirmatory test for positive samples.

·         Parallel testing is preferred; two different types of rapid test on all clients.

·         Counselors conduct simple rapid tests for they are trained and supervised by a qualified laboratory technologist.

Who provide V.C.T.?     

·         Trained V.C.T. counselers.

·         Counselors carefully selected with flexible duties adjusted to allow adequate session for V.C.T.

·         Counselors abide by a code of conduct and ethics.

Who receives V.C.T.?

·         Those serious about behavior.

·         All having multiple sexual partners.

·         Anyone diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease or tuberculosis need counseling.

·         Over 18 years old are consented for free V.C.T. services

·         Couple on-set of a relationship, before marriage, and on pregnancy planning.

·         Sexually active .i.e. ‘mature minors’ of 15 can be counseled on the  counselors evaluation.

·         Children under 15 are served only with parental consent and only if there is a clear benefit to the child.
